Cindy Black was born and raised in Wyoming. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Guidance and Counseling from Eastern New Mexico University and worked for 29 years as a public school counselor. She completed her Ph.D. at University of Nevada, Reno in 2025. Dr. Black currently serves as a counselor educator at New Mexico Highlands University, where she teaches courses in school counseling, orientation and ethics, and counseling skills through a synchronous online format. Her scholarship focuses on preparing future school counselors for contemporary practice, including training them to work effectively in online settings. Her current research examines how school counseling preparation curricula can be more closely aligned with the realities of professional practice.
